Why I Wrote The Contractor Series:

A Personal Journey from Experience to Fiction

The Contractor Series was never originally intended to become a series. It began as something much more personal: a way for me to process my experiences, confront the memories of my service in Vietnam, and cope with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

My first three books were based on personal experiences. However, writing a novel required a different approach. I had to learn how to weave real-life experiences into fiction, blending the emotions and lessons of my past with imaginative storytelling. Through this process, the Contractor Series took shape—not simply as a collection of military thrillers, but as a journey into the complexities of loyalty, duty, sacrifice, and the human condition.

Here is the story behind the series.

Inside the World of the Contractor Series:

At the heart of the story is a successful building contractor and Marine veteran who is approached by a senator to help establish an elite black-ops team. The unit operates under a straightforward directive: neutralize imminent threats to the United States on foreign soil. Its responsibilities also include rescue missions and intelligence gathering.

Operating in the shadows, the team becomes an ultimate instrument of national security—highly efficient, completely deniable, and fiercely loyal to the agency that created it.

But everything changes when the team's directives shift their focus from foreign terrorists to domestic targets.

In the first book, the team is ordered to eliminate high-ranking figures within the U.S. government. What begins as a mission under the banner of national security soon leads them into a dangerous world of political intrigue, betrayal, and moral uncertainty.

As the unit begins what it believes to be a routine domestic surveillance operation, its members uncover a disturbing truth: the political web surrounding them is far more deeply rooted and corrupt than they ever imagined. The very agency responsible for creating their unit appears to be orchestrating a massive internal conspiracy.

The team must now navigate a psychological minefield. Overseas, the enemy was clear. At home, the threat wears a suit, holds a security clearance, and communicates over the same radio frequencies they trust.

When Loyalty Becomes a Question of Survival:

With every new assignment, the missions grow darker. The team is increasingly ordered to carry out operations that resemble state-sanctioned assassinations more than legitimate national security missions.

As the pressure mounts, cracks begin to form within the unit. Suspicion and distrust spread through the ranks, threatening to destroy the bonds that once held the team together. Brothers-in-arms who have faced death side by side begin questioning one another's motives.

At the center of the growing conflict is Scorpio, the team leader, who must manage not only a deadly external threat but also the possibility of mutiny within his own ranks.

The story reaches a boiling point when the line between justice and personal vengeance begins to disappear completely. Faced with an order that would force them across an irreversible ethical boundary, the contractor and his team arrive at a defining crossroads.

They must make a choice: continue following orders from compromised leadership or break away and forge a dangerous new path.

Choosing the latter means turning their specialized skills against the very people who created them. In doing so, they transform from elite operatives into some of the nation's most wanted fugitives.

More Than an Action Thriller:

The Contractor Series is more than an adrenaline-fueled adventure. It is an exploration of moral complexity, the burden of authority, and the fragile nature of loyalty.

The series is designed for readers who enjoy high-stakes espionage thrillers grounded in realistic military operations, compelling relationships, and characters pushed to their emotional limits.

Yet beneath the action, suspense, and tactical precision lies another dimension: humanity.

Romance, personal sacrifice, and the emotional impact of rescuing a baby reveal that even individuals hardened by war and dangerous missions retain a profound capacity for compassion. These moments remind readers that strength is not measured solely by combat skills or the ability to follow orders, but also by the courage to protect the innocent and make difficult moral choices.

A Powerful Conclusion to the Saga:

As the fifth and final installment, the series finale provides a fitting conclusion to an ambitious thriller saga. It brings together the high stakes, emotional depth, and unresolved conflicts that have shaped the characters' journey.

Longtime readers can look forward to answers to lingering questions, while new readers can discover the scope and depth of the Contractor universe.

The final book aims to deliver an engaging and memorable conclusion—one that honors the characters, their sacrifices, and the difficult choices that have defined their lives.

The Truth Behind the Fiction:

Ultimately, the greatest strength of the Contractor Series lies in its emotional foundation.

For me, fiction became a vehicle for processing the memories and experiences associated with my service in Vietnam and the effects of PTSD. Although the characters and events of the series belong to the world of fiction, the emotions that underpin their struggles are deeply personal.

This connection between personal experience and imagination gives the characters a vulnerability that extends beyond the battlefield. Their conflicts are not merely about completing missions or defeating enemies; they are also about living with the consequences of their actions, confronting their memories, and deciding what it means to do the right thing when every available choice carries a cost.

My background also informs the technical authenticity of the stories. As a skydiver, master scuba diver, licensed pilot, and aerial photography specialist, I draw on a range of practical knowledge to develop the team's tactical maneuvers, operational planning, and logistical details.

These experiences help me build a world in which readers can follow the team's movements and understand the challenges behind its high-stakes missions. The goal is to make the action feel grounded and credible while keeping the focus on the people behind the operations.

In the end, The Contractor Series is about more than military missions, political conspiracies, or life-or-death decisions. It is about the lasting impact of war, the weight of responsibility, the meaning of brotherhood, and the courage required to stand by one's convictions.

The series began as an unplanned journey through memory and fiction. It became a story about loyalty tested, truth pursued, and humanity preserved in the darkest of circumstances.
